Student training

Chess training platform for academies

ChessCore is where your students train and where you run the academy. Students get a catalog of 6,095,563 rated puzzles, a spaced-repetition practice queue with streaks and a leaderboard, human-like AI opponents, classmate games, homework and a live classroom board, in the same product that runs your batches, fees and parent updates.

For how the student side fits the rest of the platform, see chess academy management software.

What the student side includes

The student side of ChessCore has four parts: puzzles, practice, play and class. ChessCore covers the business and the training in one record per student, and each of the four parts feeds the coach's view of how a student is progressing.

  1. Puzzles

6,095,563 rated puzzles from the open Lichess database, searchable by rating and theme, assigned by the coach or matched to weak themes.

  2. Practice

A spaced-repetition queue in the student portal, with streaks, points and an academy leaderboard.

  3. Play

Human-like Maia opponents at five levels, classmate challenges and a rating test for new students.

  4. Class

A shared live board the coach drives, a saved move log, consent-gated recording and class recaps.

A puzzle catalog of 6,095,563 rated puzzles

ChessCore loads the open Lichess puzzle database, released under CC0, into one shared catalog of 6,095,563 rated puzzles with themes and opening tags. A coach previews the catalog by rating band and theme, and copies a bounded selection into the academy's curriculum. Puzzle sets go to a batch or a single student with a due date. The adaptive picker ranks the catalog against a student's weak themes, so each set targets what keeps going wrong in that student's games. A coach can also send mistakes flagged in a student's analysed games straight into that student's queue as puzzles built from their own positions.

Spaced-repetition practice with streaks and a leaderboard

Students open their own portal and see the puzzles due today. The queue is scheduled with FSRS, a spaced-repetition algorithm, so a missed idea comes back sooner and a solid one later. Every solve earns points and extends a streak, and the academy leaderboard ranks students by points and streak. Coaches see completion and accuracy per assignment, and parent reports cite those records, not AI estimates.

Play against AI opponents and classmates

Practice games run against Maia, a human-like chess model, at five levels from about 1100 to about 1900. Students meet an opponent that makes human mistakes instead of engine-perfect moves. They can also challenge classmates inside their own academy. A new student takes a short rating test, one game against an adaptive opponent, that estimates a starting level. Games students play on Lichess and Chess.com still sync into the Stockfish review coaches use for game analysis.

A live classroom on a shared board

In a live class the coach drives a shared board and every move appears on each student's screen, with a saved move log for the session. With consent recorded, ChessCore records the class and drafts a recap. By default a coach approves the recap before it reaches a parent. Video and audio run inside the classroom, so classes need no separate Zoom or Meet link.

Homework, curriculum and tournaments

Coaches build a curriculum with an AI syllabus composer, starting from packs that ship with the product: a 24-step foundations ladder, tactics and endgame quiz banks, and lesson templates. Homework carries due dates and per-assignment analytics. Guess-the-move exercises on master games feed a mastery dashboard with skill certificates, and academy tournaments run Swiss, Arena, round-robin, knockout or team pairings, with tiebreaks and live public standings. When a coach writes the monthly report, the copilot drafts it from these records, and progress tracking shows the trend over a season.

How ChessCore compares

ChessCore differs by bundling the rest of the academy with student training. Coaching-delivery platforms also offer puzzles and a video classroom; some add screen sharing or arcade-style mini-games, and the comparison pages say so. Alongside training, ChessCore runs the rest of the academy in the same product: make-ups, substitutions, coach payroll, UPI AutoPay and a family ledger, with reports a coach approves. Frequently asked questions

Does ChessCore have a puzzle library?
Yes. ChessCore holds a shared catalog of 6,095,563 rated puzzles from the open Lichess puzzle database (CC0), with themes and opening tags. Coaches preview puzzles by rating and theme, copy a selection into their curriculum, and assign sets as homework or as practice matched to each student’s weak themes.
How do students practise between classes?
Each student has a training portal with a due-now puzzle queue scheduled by spaced repetition (FSRS), so puzzles come back just before they are forgotten. Solves earn points and build a streak, and an academy leaderboard shows the top students by points and streak.
Can students play games inside ChessCore?
Yes. Students can play human-like Maia AI opponents at five levels, from about 1100 to about 1900, challenge classmates inside their own academy, and take a short rating test that estimates their level from a first game.
Does ChessCore have a live classroom?
Yes. The coach drives a shared board and every move appears on each student’s screen, with a saved move log for the class. Classes can be recorded once consent is in place and summarised into a recap that, by default, a coach approves before parents see it. Video and audio are built into the classroom, so no Zoom or Meet link is needed.
Is the student side a separate product?
No. Practice, classes, homework and tournaments live in the same record as attendance, fees and parent updates, so a progress report can cite puzzles solved and games played next to attendance, and a coach approves it before it sends.
