How do you make chess certificates for a whole event at once?

Type the event once, paste every recipient on their own line, pick the award type, and print. Each non-empty line becomes one A4 landscape sheet with that name in the middle and the same heading, date, and signature line underneath.

An academy handing out forty participation certificates after a Saturday meet should not open a design file forty times. Paste the list from the pairing sheet or the attendance column, print, then run a second pass for winners if you need those too. Sibling organiser sheets sit with all free chess tools.

What does this free chess certificate generator do, and what does it not do?

It prints personalised academy certificates from a pasted name list, in the browser, free. It does not design artwork, stamp an official federation seal, or replace the AICF download that players use for national championship certificates.

Free single-certificate editors already exist. Creative Certificates publishes a free chess-awards page and a free maker (creativecertificates.com/chess-awards, retrieved 2026-08-13). DiMaker publishes a free chess template that it says you can export as a 3508 x 2480 image at 300 DPI, and a Create-by-list spreadsheet merge that it says can produce up to 30 files in half a minute (dimaker.online chess template, Create by list, both retrieved 2026-08-13). This page is the paste-and-print academy version: no account, names stay on the device, A4 first, wording written for Indian school and AICF-rated souvenirs.

What wording should you put on each award type?

Use participation for the whole field, winner and runner-up for named sections, most improved for one coach-chosen name, and course completion for a term rather than a tournament. The generator writes the sentence; you still choose which list belongs on which pass.

Course completion	A term, module, or beginner course, not a tournament	has completed the chess course at [academy], recorded on [date].	The event field becomes the course title. This is not a FIDE Trainer credential.

Keep the event name identical across a winner and runner-up pass so the pair reads as one section. If you have category prizes (best Under-10, best girl, best newcomer), put that category in the event field and print those names as winners of that smaller event. Do not write champion on a six-player house section; first is enough. Most improved is a judgement call. Tell parents the window (this term, this event) so the paper does not look like a lifetime title.

What changes for an AICF-rated event versus a school chess meet?

A school meet gets a participation souvenir for everyone who played. An AICF-rated event can use the same souvenir with the event's published name, but the official national championship certificate is a different download that AICF issues by AICF ID or FIDE ID.

The All India Chess Federation is the administrative body for chess in India, affiliated to FIDE (Wikipedia, retrieved 2026-08-13). On 2026-08-13 AICF's own page said certificates for National Age Group, National Schools, Women, and Junior Girls could be downloaded with an AICF ID or FIDE ID, and pointed at prs.aicf.in/certificates/download (aicf.in/certificates-of-national-championships). That paper is federation stationery. This generator is not.

For an AICF-rated open or state event you organised, copy the event name from the circular, not a nickname. You may write that the event was AICF-rated in the event field. Leave the footer on the sheet: academy or school certificate, not official AICF or FIDE. For a house match or an after-school club night, stay with participation language and skip federation words. Affiliation and rated play sit on AICF affiliation for chess academies; the rating pipeline is on how a player gets a FIDE rating in India. What paper size should you print on in India?

A4 landscape. ISO 216 sets A4 at 210 mm x 297 mm, the sheet Indian home printers and school offices stock (ISO 216, retrieved 2026-08-13). In the print dialog choose A4 and landscape, then print or save as PDF.

US Letter is 216 mm x 279 mm, a little wider and 18 mm shorter than A4. The same layout still reads on Letter if you turn on the browser's fit-to-page option. Card stock looks better in a child's hand than 70 gsm copy paper; that is a stationery choice, not a setting on this page. The pairing sheet for the same event is a different job: round 1 Swiss pairings. The scoresheet that belongs on each board is the printable chess score sheet.

When is a chess certificate something else entirely?

A tournament souvenir, a tested course credential, and a vocational diploma are three different documents. This page only prints the first. Search results for chess certificate also surface the other two, which is why the wording on this page stays narrow.

The English Chess Federation publishes a Certificate of Excellence as a progressive course with four exam levels. On 2026-08-13 its page stated Bronze and Silver at £5 per test (one retest included) and Gold and Diamond at £10 per test (englishchess.org.uk/certificate-of-excellence). That is a paid exam, not a Saturday-meet souvenir. A separate IN result for the query chess certificate is a vocational CERTIFICATE IN CHESS course page at niedssc.org (retrieved 2026-08-13). Do not print this generator's sheet as if it were either of those.

Are the names stored anywhere?

No. The list stays in your browser tab: names, the event, and the signature line are typed into the page, drawn by code on your device, and never sent to a server. Close the tab and nothing remains.

Reload and you will need to paste the list again. There is no account and no cloud copy of the field. That is the point for a school that should not upload a class list to a design site in order to print Saturday's certificates. ChessCore, which we build, is academy management software; this page is only the certificate printer.

Type the event, the date, and the academy once. Paste every recipient on their own line. The page turns each line into one certificate with the same heading, date, and signature line, then the browser print dialog sends the whole stack to paper or PDF. Nothing is uploaded.

Pick participation, winner, runner-up, most improved, or course completion. That choice sets the heading and the sentence under the name. The wording table on this page is the part to read before you print: school meets, AICF-rated souvenirs, and official AICF national certificates are three different pieces of paper.

How many names can I paste?

Up to 80 non-empty lines in one pass. Blank lines are ignored. The first 80 names print if you paste more. Print a second pass for another award type, such as winners after you have printed participation for the whole field.

Does this replace Canva or DiMaker?

No. Canva and DiMaker are design editors. DiMaker also documents a Create-by-list feature that fills tags such as %name from a spreadsheet and says you can get up to 30 files in half a minute (features page retrieved 2026-08-13). This page does one job: paste names, apply one award sentence, print A4 in the browser, keep the list on the device.
